An alternative to porcelain veneers is a cosmetic dental procedure called bonding, which can be used as a restorative procedure for teeth that are chipped, cracked, discolored, or disarranged.
We prepare the tooth by lightly etching the surface and applying a bonding liquid. Once it sets, a plastic resin is applied and sculpted by the dentist into the desired shape. Once the resin sets, it is trimmed, smoothed, and polished to a natural appearance.
Often able to be completed in a single office visit, the teeth bonding procedure can significantly improve the appearance of a tooth. However, keep in mind that the plastic resin used is not as strong as natural tooth enamel, so bonding teeth typically lasts only about three to five years before it may need repair.
Bonding resins may have a short life which is dependent on size, location and amount of adverse stress that it may need to endure. We will discuss the variety of materials that are available and may best fit your needs.
